Notes about Stone Lake Enduro from the Trail Chancellor

Hi Ya'll,

The three day weekend is coming up and we are making plans to go up to Stone Lake.

We've accomplished alot so far and I want to thank everyone who has contributed to this.  We have about 15 miles cleared.

We are not going to make our 20 mile single-track commitment with the Trail that we have flagged and/or cleared.  This is because we had accidentally flagged some routes over the north boundary of the property.  So, when we cleared them, we had to cut short several loops. So, it would be nice to mileage what we have and figure out a way to make up the lost mileage. Tim, Roy and I already have an idea or two in regards to this.

Here is what I think is left to be done on the routes that we have already flagged/cleared:

a.  About 4 miles of flagged route still needs to be cleared.

b.  Two bridges need to be built

c.  All trails should be reviewed and "improved" if needed.

d.  Any deadfall that has happened in the months since the cleared trails have been put in should be cleared.

e.  All cleared routes should be burned-in as much as possible.

Somehow, I would like to make up for the lost mileage. I, personally, will take this on as a project and will be looking for help to pull it off. I don't plan to start anything until the remaining existing flagged mileage is cleared and plans are in place to get the bridges done.  So, this weekend we need to attack the remaining flagged mileage, get it cleared and do some burning in.

Here's the work schedule for the remaining weekends.

Sept 3, 4, 5      Trail Work

Sept 10, 11       Trail Work

Sept 18, 19       Mileaging (all trail needs to be complete and well marked so that Mike Ward and I don't get lost)

Sept 25, 26       Bridges

Oct 1, 2            Arrowing

Oct 7, 8, 9         ENDURO  WEEKEND

You can see that, after the weekend of Sept 10, 11 it will mostly about riding for most people.

Please contact me if you plan to come up this weekend.  I plan to be there on Saturday and Sunday and I have heard from a couple of other people that they also plan to be up.  With the big enough crew, we could bang out most of the remaining trail to be cleared.

Best Regards,

Ken

Combined Club Meeting Minutes, for July 27, 2005 and August 31, 2005

Combined Attendance –  Spotty at best

Mark Brunsberg, Bob Chase (both), Ken Fastner (both), Charlie Forrest Jr., Scott Haraldson, Nathan Huskamp, Jon Kemnitz (both), Matt Leebens, Jeff Mack, Bob Maki, Greg Nelson, John Otto (both), Tom Peterson, Paul Spears, Doug Less (both)

·         Doug Less voted in as a probationary member.

·         Potlatch Leases – As part of the agreement to allow us to use the leased Potlatch land for the Enduro, we are no longer supposed to use those trails next year. Ken is going to see if there is someone else within Potlatch, such as PR, that may be more motivated to allow us to use those sections

·         Holyoke Enduro wrap-up – Other than the dust, things went very well for the Enduro. Things came together at the end, regarding use of all the trails, and the scoring went smoothly.

·         Grantsburg

o        Practice Days – This was brought up again and discussed. Seems to be some agreement on trying them among the few members present.

o        Quad Only Dates – Tom is going to look into getting a dual sanction with D16 (WI). This has the possibility of increasing the attendance significantly.

o        There may be someone in Grantsburg that we can get use of dozers through.

o        The watering system project is well under way. See Announcements and note below for more details.

o        Again, the track is not a dump. Please take your trash with you when you leave.

Granstburg Watering Update from the MX Chair

I got the opportunity to go up and measure the track for the amount irrigation line needed to get water to the rest of the track and new water barrels. I used a measuring wheel and it turns out to be just over 2300 feet need to run lines along the rest of the track that will be fed off the new barrels. My brother-in-law can get it for me at 68 cents per foot and his supplier might deliver it as well, we have to check on that, the dairy co-op in Grantsburg was right around a $1.00/foot and another D23 member in the irrigation business was 80 cents per foot. For all of the supplies needed we’re looking at nearly $3500.00 to get this all done. I think I sound get some sort of approval before spending this much of the club’s money.

      $1600 – Irrigation Line

$1560 – Additional Bulk High Pressure Water Hose

      $250 – 12 Nozzles

$200 – Misc. Fittings and Hardware

This stuff is going to come in 300’ rolls and we’ll need some way of moving them around so we can un-roll it without putting kinks in the line. I think a bobcat or tractor will be required. I’d like to get a small crew together in mid Sept. to get this work done before the fall moto. The first thing that needs to be done is to get the barrels placed, Skip said he can do that once we get some rain up there. I’ll bring the plan to the next meeting. BTW, I took one of the new pumps from the shed so I can get the right stuff to hook them up to the new barrels.

Everything has been ordered, I got the bulk high-pressure hose for much less than originally quoted. Turns out that the place where I got it from one of my friends nephew is the sales manager, $.82/foot vs. $2.60/foot. I guess it helps to know people. I am going to have the irrigation line delivered around Sept. 15th and am planning on being up there all of that weekend to lay out hose and dig ditches and so on. I'm looking into renting a ditch witch to bury the irrigation line especially where it'll need to cross the track.
