· MN Moose Run
o The AMA is encouraging a “Family Enduro” the Saturday before the real enduro. Apparently it’s somewhere between a trail ride and an enduro. This doesn’t fit very well with how we usually do Saturdays. There was some question about still running the 50s on their own course. Where the other youth classes would normally run on Saturday, there was some discussion of running the C classes also in a “short” enduro. That way, on Sunday, it would just be Pros, A, and B.
o Matt Stavish has a pal in the printing business that will help do a flyer/poster for us. Matt will start on the design.
o The D23 A and B classes match up very well with the National Amateur classes.
o Things that we need to tee up regarding the National are:
§ Flyer/Poster
§ Tee Shirts
§ Door prizes
§ Local, secondary sponsors
§ Door prizes (from local secondary sponsors)
§ Pre-entries
o We need club members to take on these items. Don’t worry, you wouldn’t have to do it alone, you would just be the person who leads the effort.
· GIA
o We will be going up to the woods looking at how some of the worn-wide trails could be replaced with fresh single-track. As long as they pretty much start and end at the same points, we are not too restricted in how the new trails are routed.
o We should be able to get the supplement that Ken applied for. This will cover expense b/w now and next spring.
o The Grant-in Aid manual is on the DNR website. In it, you can read what the reimbursement schedule is or any other info that may interest you. Just go to: http://files.dnr.state.mn.us/assistance/grants/recreation/ohvmanual07.doc
· Grantsburg
o Another idea for the sound issue came up. We would try to keep people off certain parts of the track, because those are the spots that tend to direct the most sound towards the neighbors. The two areas mentioned were taking the 65 cut-off instead of the parking lot section and not allowing practicing starts on the start area. These limitations would be on certain times or days that were not decided on. No motion was made.
o The new sign-up building is progressing. The shell of the building is complete and electric is hooked up to a breaker box in the building. Roofing, sheetrock, heater installation, wiring, decking, etc... need to be done. We can still use the help. Work is done on most Saturdays. Call Roy or Tim to confirm a workday.
o An idea to raise money for to help pay for the new Signup Building would be to have an April 6 Quad MX race and a Bike practice day on Saturday, March 29. Either sanction could be still be submitted.
· D23 Enduro of the Year Trophy – Quite a while ago we agreed to replace the existing, cheesy traveling trophy. Ken Fastner will re-spearhead this effort. Time is short as it would be best if the trophy were ready for the Enduro Banquet on Feb 2.
· Tim Kight brought up the idea of having a Stone Lake Hare Scrambles on Memorial Day weekend. At first he suggested 2008, but the cold response to that idea lead to a more agreeable 2009 proposed date.
Next Probationary Members due to be voted on: Darrel Ion, (Due) December 20073 meetings and it’s time to vote on: Matt Stavish
2007 is now behind us now and was monetarily OK for the club, but I can’t help but remember that we’ll be going into 2008 without two club members that I considered friends; Paul Spears and Sheila Brunsberg. For those who spent more time with them than I did, I can only imagine that the feeling of loss is that much deeper. Their passing was never mentioned in these newsletters for a variety of reasons, but I know they will not be forgotten. I got a bunch of holeshots with 671 stickers on my fenders this year and felt like I could sometimes hear Paul telling me to “stop thinking and just gas it”. I heard about Sheila’s passing the day after I found out my Dad was terminally ill with Lung Cancer. That was a really bad week. I’m not sure how we’ll fill in for all the things she would do on the work and event weekends and I know that her pleasant presence will be missed tremendously. We got through our enduro and our last motocross race without her, but they definitely felt different. Let’s hope that 2008 is a better year and we find ways to honor the memory of the club members that have left this earth way too early. Bob Chase Perpetual SAER Secretary
Progress on the new Sign-Up Lodge continues despite the lack of club members helping out.
