Winter Escapes

·         Tom Peterson is in a group traveling to Oklahoma February 9-12. If interested, contact him.

·         Ken and other club members were planning on going to Arkansas February 25-28. Note from El Presidente:

Arrows,

Last spring a small group of us went down for the WUDI spring ride, Near Hot Springs, Arkansas.  The trails are great and guides to the  Otherwise well marked trails are available for all skill levels.  We had fun and I am looking forward to going again.  The trickiest part is finding a place to stay that is reasonably cheap and nice.  So, that is yet to be figured out. If you are interested in going, contact me and I will coordinate for our group.

Here are the details from the MN guy who pulls it together, John Brunsgaard (of Golden Eagle's fame):

Can you believe we've been doing this for 7 years now? Man, time flies when you're having fun. Or even if you're not. ;-) Jim Cook has set the dates for this years ride. Here's what he says about this years ride time and location:

-----------------------------------

The location will again be at the TrainRobbers Trail.  The club has voted to support us with the ride with trail work and guides. The date has now been set (today, as a matter of fact). The unofficial dates of the unorganized non-event are Friday, Feb 25th through Monday, Feb 28.

-----------------------------------

So we're again in debt to the ADR (Arkansas Dirt Riders) for hosting us and prepping their awesome enduro trails for the ride. I didn't even get a chance to ride all the trails last year so I'm looking forward to giving it another shot. Seems like I was always in that Big Nasty ridge trail area, for some reason. It was all fun riding. I haven't talked to Stewart Hall yet but hopefully the hardcore folks who stick around after the weekend will be able to ride at Chadwick for a few days with the best Chadwick guide anywhere!

The email list and the "spodelist" are building fast! Good to see so many folks wanting to go to this ride again this year. The ADR sure have some great trails and it's always fun to go see what Stewart has for us.

Club Meeting Minutes, December 29, 2004

Attendance   10

Current Members; Mark Brunsberg, Bob Chase, Ken Fastner, Scott Haraldson, Matt Leebens, Mke Maslow, Mike Murphy, John Otto, Tom Peterson

Prospective Members – David Bowser (1st)

·         7:09 – Meeting starts at the same time for third month in a row. (does the secretary’s watch move?)

·         Got the Straight Arrows decals and they look good. Secretary will bring them to meetings.

·         Decided on the new logo and color of the club clothing. It was decided to have the same color (purple again) and club logo on all of them. There will be t-shirts, sweatshirts, jackets, and possibly long sleeve shirts .

·         Ben Boenisch, Scott Haraladson, and Nathan Husakamp were voted in as full members.

·         Web site and hot line needs to be updated with 2005 info

·         Some Potlatch land W of 23 was open for lease. If a few key tracts were not available to us, we could end up not being able to connect certain trails together. The plan is to find out what, if any, tracts got leased and try to see if the leasees will work with us or if we can bypass the tract.

·         Ken Fastner, the DNR, and Washington County Wheelers had a meeting. The DNR should have noted our concerns and objectives as well as the Wheelers’.

·         Ken made maps of the trails used in the Enduro, complete with trail names. It’s hoped that the DNR will use the names so that everyone can use the same names and know where they are talking about. An attempt to scan the map is shown below.

·         Since the closest town is Stone Lake, that will be the town name, not Hayward, that we use when referring to the new private riding area. Ken suggested the Big Johnson Enduro as the event name and the owner (last name Johnson) liked the idea.

·         It was decided to try to get the Shakopee snowmobile club to flag as many events as they want to. We would offer them more than what we paid last year, because they are self–sufficient and do a very good job. Any dates they don’t want will be offered to the Grantsburg Hockey Club at last year’s rate.

·         Matt got information from Park Tavern in Saint Louis Park about having the party there. They have a deal where we would get a room with a buffet and would get bowling time as well. This is what we probably go with. February 5 is the tentative date. 7- 9:30.
