Old Business

·         We talked about allowing camping on the Granstburg property for the water skip. Matt told us that they are set for 2004, but we may be in for 2005.

·         The projects listed in last month’s newsletter were briefly discussed. It was generally agreed that we need to talk to Tim about some of the trailer/shed related projects and that the ones we would like to address before the August race were the watering system, the new scoring building, and any improvements to the track itself (mostly widening a few areas).

·         Follow up on the ATV Training idea discussed last month: Ken Fastner found out there was a state safety instructor certification that is pretty easy to get, but you cannot charge for it. It’s more of a “being a good guy/club” kind of thing. The ASI certification is a national program and does not have the “no fees” restriction. The certification is most likely more difficult and costly than the state program. Bob Chase has an interest in doing this and will contact ASI for more information as soon as he is done taking about himself in the third person.

·         Everything’s OK with the zoning so far. No worries.

·         We found at the district meeting that we need to score MX classes down to 20, even if some of the 20 are in the consolation race. This came up with the micro track. The line holds less than 20. So if we run 12 in the main than the 1st rider in the consi is scored 13th, the next 14th, etc.  Ken brought up a few of his concerns (see May 2005 issue) at the district meeting. They met with an unfavorable response.

·         We had a good (for OHVs) bill in the legislature, but it died with the collapse of the session.

Enduro

·         Section leaders should all have been up to their sections by now to at least insure they trails are not blocked by fallen trees.

·         In mid-June, we will need quite a few people to help move a boardwalk. He said where, but the secretary became distracted thinking of how unfamiliar he was with all the nicknames used for all the areas of the woods and forgot what he said. Contact Ken if you would like to help with this project (moving the boardwalk that is, not trying to revive the secretary’s failing memory).

·         The district will conduct training on how to use the sound testing equipment. Mark Krey and John Otto volunteered to go. Anyone else that is interested may also attend.

·         Greg is looking at samples for the trophies. We can get these ones that are shaped like a slice of a log, Minnesota or whatever we may want, but it would be cheaper if they were all the same shape as each other. He will bring in samples at another meeting.

·         Last year, the signing of the trails was partially done. The goal is to sign the remainder of the trail this year.

·         Ken brought up reviving the Preview Weekend. This is where, early in the year, the club goes up to ride and check out the trails.

·         Ken took a Tread Lightly training session. There are some materials describing the Tread Lightly approach that we may give to people that we see at the trails.

New Business

·         Matt has brought up that he will not seek, nor will he accept, his party’s nomination for the position of Moto chair. He will fulfill his commitment for this year, but he suggested we start thinking of someone who he could groom as his replacement.

·         There was an extremely poor showing at the last garbage day. It was thought the general problem was that people aren’t sure when they take place. It was suggested that we could gather up the cans at the end of the race day.  We still have daylight when the races end, so we could get this done then rather than people making another trip to the track just to help in that part of the job. We would still need people on the trash day itself to help load and dump the cans.

·         There was some discussion on who will do the grading of the track. Rob Murphy has expressed that he is no longer interested in doing it, but will for the August moto, if necessary. Mike Murphy has lined up someone else that is interested in doing it. It was agreed that they should have it spelled out what would be expected of them. If they are OK with it, we will try them for the August race.

·         Having Saturday practice was discussed. While there is not a lot of enthusiasm among the club members to do this, it may be necessary to stay competitive with the other tracks. Tabled for another month.

·         Getting club jackets was discussed. Mark Krey will look into it. There was also some discussion of sweatshirts.

·         The secretary was asked to bring a copy of the rules and constitution to meetings, so that we no longer have to hatch theories of what the documents might say.

·         Adam Peper and Bob Zewers completed their probationary period and were voted in as non-probationary members.
