· We have had some recent complaints from our Grantsburg neighbors about noise on non-race days. If you know youhave a loud bike, please quiet it down before practicing at the track. See related note elsewhere in the newsletter.
· 2007 Dues are due. Please take the time to submit them promptly as it would relieve the treasurer and secretary of the distasteful job of sending out reminders.
· The Dues structure has been changed. It is now: Jan 1 thru April 1: $50, April 2 thru July 1: $75, after July 2, you’re out. $100 to buy back in.
· Dues can be sent to:

Club Meeting Minutes, from April 18, 2007
Attendance:
Club Members – Bob Chase, John Deluce, Ken Fastner, Nathan Huskamp, Jon Kemnitz, Mark Krey, Mike Murphy, Greg Nelson, John Otto, Gene Perry
Prospective members – Mike Pohl (2nd), Lana Markey (2nd), Jim Flash (1st)
· Please use the expense forms when sending in for reimbursement. They can found online or in the scoring trailer to the left of the race sign-up windows.
· D23 Meeting – Got some good comments about the tracks changes. This year, a new AMA rules requires some kind of a backstop behind the start so people don’t get a run at the gate. A timber would be difficult to use because it would be constantly getting buried in sand and would also make access to the start area more difficult for maintenance. On the April 22 race, we tried marking the ends with stakes.
· There was much discussion about operational details of the upcoming race. Since the race was held already, there’s not much point in listing it all here.
· Holyoke
o As of the meeting, the Nemadji was “closed”. It can be accessed if working on the trail.
o Still need another section leader. The new person could get an “easy” section and would get assistance from Ken and the other section leaders if they have never done it before.
o The 30-foot bridge, mentioned in earlier newsletter is the biggest project. We were going to have a plaque on it that says something like “Built by Straight Arrows Motorcycle Club.”
o There was some question about whether we are still responsible for upgrading the D23 Enduro of the Year award.
o Ken got a letter from a Conservation Officer. In it he complained about arrows left up on the trails. We have to do a better job taking down arrows after the Enduro. If you see any arrows up while you’re doing trail work during the year, please take them down.
· Stone Lake – The Stone Lake Enduro is coming up fast (June 17th). The May meeting is the last one we’ll have before that Enduro. There’s 1.5 miles of trail to put in and 25 miles of trail to do spring clearing on. Get with Roy, Tim, Bob Maki or Ken to help out.
· Constitution Change – The long-awaited Constitution changes will be sent this month. They were originally going to be to make the election of Officer take place earlier, so the vote isn’t so close to the District sanctioning meeting. John Otto also brought up the previously discussed idea of designating people “Life Members”. He will write the language and forward it to Ken F.
At the last MX, we tested two of the fastest guys (and one other guy) on the track. They sounded loud while they were racing the Premier race so we pulled them over after the first Moto and sound tested them (which didn't go over so well). They all failed. One was 115 dB!!, the others about 105 dB. We asked them to "fix it" before the second Moto and I believe that two of them did something because their bikes were noticeably quieter in the second set of Motos. After that I got to listening to bikes in general. It is pretty apparent that a significant number of them are over the limit.
On Monday, John Otto and I received phone calls complaining about noise. We got complaints about race day noise AND noise during the week. I believe that we need to do something about both problems. For race day noise; John, Mike and myself have been trading ideas. Not sure how this is going to end up but, we will be doing some more testing and more rider notification for sure. For noise on non-race days, everyone should know that we have a club rule that says that, if your bike does not meet the 99 dB limit, that you can't ride at Grantsburg. We have to hold all club members to this standard. It is especially true if you bring up a guest to ride and they're too loud. Somehow we have to get YOUR (and my) bike tested to be sure it isn't a problem for the Straight Arrows. Of course, no one is going to be the SAER police and no one wants to tell other club members that they can't ride. We are going to have to depend on YOU to make sure that you aren't blowing it for the rest of us. We'll discuss this at the next meeting and try to come up with a plan to get club members tested. Even if you don't ride at Grantsburg, you should consider making sure that your bike passes the test. For more details you can go out to the D23 Message Boards and look under "Motocross" to see what I and others have written.
