Attendance – 13

Current Members Bob Chase, Mark Erickson, Ken Fastner, Jon Kemnitz, Mark Krey, Bob Maki, Mike Maslow, Mike Murphy, John Otto, Tom Peterson

Old / New Business

·         The jumps held up well at the August 29 Grantsburg MX. Mike Murphy tried driving his truck back and forth on some of the jumps. It seemed to pack them down better than the dozer. Before each race, if we get several people doing this, it would go pretty quick.

·         Pictures of the different types of clothes and two new club logos were displayed. These are from the same people who made the T-shirts for the 03 Enduro. Most people liked one of the new logos. No agreement on color or style.

·         Motion made and passed that when you pay your dues, if you have not yet received a shirt from the club, you will get one at that time.

·         Tom Peterson was trying to fill out a resume for our track. Anyone who has track history, number of years the track has run, big name riders that have been there, or any other historical tidbits, contact Tom. TomP@magenic.com

·         There was a chat about web statistics. To see charts about it, try www.stats.straightarrows.org Also, if there are any qualified webmasters in the club, Mark Erickson would be happy to turn over his webmaster duties to you.

Trail Ride Report (based on an email by Ken Fastner)

Arrows,

I wanted to thank everyone that came up and helped make the Trail Ride a success.  We received a lot of positive comments, mostly from people thanking us for making the effort to put the thing on.

Roy, Nanette and I were up the weekend before clearing most of the deadfall (there was a lot of it!) and doing some initial arrowing.  That new chainsaw I bought kicked some deadfall butt!  Because that was taken care of in advance, the work load on the Friday before the event was manageable. With Roy, Mike Murphy, Jeff Klein and Jeff Terrio showing up on Friday morning, there was plenty of help there to do the Arrowing and final clearing in the misty rain.  I waited to put up most of the intersection signs until Saturday morning, which dawned with a clear blue sky.

The DNR did grade the parking area as they promised but, they didn't do a thing to make it any bigger.  When the Washington/Ramsey Wheelers showed up to put in their bridge, things got a bit tight.  The film crew from Ron Shara's show did take some footage at the parking area but it sounds like most of the filming happened at the bridge site.  Don't know if we got an honorable mention there so we'll have to wait for the episode to see how that pans out.  I'll try to find out when/if it will air so that we can check it out.

Sunday was another blue-sky day, with a few more riders and a couple of old Straight Arrows (Ken King and Mark Griffith) showing up to ride.  Don't know if they paid or not.  We had an altercation with a group of 7 young guys who parked in the lot and couldn't decide if they should pay or not. After an explanation of what we were doing and explaining that we do all that trail work in the Nemadji, they decided that it would be a good thing if they would pay after all.  It was cool to see them finally come around to making the right decision.

The guys that promised to stay late on Sunday and take the arrows down (Tim Blake, Greg Nelson, Mike Murphy, Roy and a couple of others that I missed) made quick work of it so that we could all vamoose at a reasonable time. While they were doing that, Nanette and I pounded in 25 new sign posts. Looks like we have about 30 more to go.  If/when this gets done, I will have pounded in about 90 sign posts this year.  I didn't know it was going to be that big a job!  The signs on the new posts with the new stickers look very official. I have gotten comments from ATV riders that they did not know that they were not supposed to ride on some of the "Motorcycle Only" trails until the signs went up.  We can expect almost no ATV traffic on those MC only trails in the future.  That should make maintenance a bunch easier.

Lastly, I should not forget to say that we all had fun riding the trails that we work so hard to put in and maintain.  Everybody made a run over to Ron's section and came back smilin'. Those that went all of the way up to Roy's section also had a gas even though there were a few technical parts that made things "interesting". Greg’s and John's sections were kind of muddy and so were good for slippery riding practice.  They were both in reasonable shape despite the excess water.

Best Regards,

Ken
